This assignment contains instructions for the entire assignment – be sure to read them carefully. When you submit your assignment, you will submit three separate assignments, to help insure that you have completed everything expected of you:
- 10 points
- Submit your atlas containing your maps to this assignment. 70 points
- 20 points
YOUR TASK:
Create an atlas illustrating the themes of context, change, comparison, and continuity throughout the history of the world until c. 1492 CE.
THE DETAILS
- Your atlas should include a set of maps for each week of the course.
- For each week of the course, you should have at least two maps (so minimum 14 maps total).
- Each set of maps should illustrate examples of one of the themes of context, change, comparison, or continuity.
- You may not directly copy maps from the textbook – your maps may be on similar topics, but you should consider how to make them your own.
- The expectation is that you will create your own maps, either by hand or using a computer program.
- You should not simply be finding maps online and providing their images.
- Maps should meet the following criteria:
- Maps should be neat and easy to read. I recommend creating your project using Canva (canva.com).
- Maps should include a title and compass rose.
- Most maps will require a key – if a map does not require a key, ask yourself whether it meets the requirements of this assignment.
- Your atlas should be accompanied by a 2-3 page paper, in which you:
- Explain why you chose to create these particular maps.
- Provide a brief (~1 paragraph) analysis of each set of maps.
- You will be uploading two separate files for this assignment:
- your atlas, which should be downloaded as a pdf file
- your 2 page analysis, which should be submitted as a Word document or other word processing file
BLANK MAPS
Use the blank outline maps below to create your atlas. In Canva, you can easily upload a file and then use that as the background of your page – then you will able to illustrate your map using their tools.
