Instructions:
Your response must be a minimum of 500 words, double-spaced. Please organize your assignment into four distinct paragraphs, numbered 1 through 4. Each paragraph should be approximately 125 words (25% of the total grade).
Note: Use the course textbook strictly as your only source. Outside research is not permitted for this assignment.
Paragraph 1: The Founding Scholar
Identify and introduce one founding scholar of sociology from the Module One readings. Detail their primary theoretical framework (e.g., Functionalism, Conflict Theory) and the specific historical context in which they developed their work.
Paragraph 2: The Successor
Identify one scholar who expanded upon the foundation laid by your first choice. Explain how this second scholar evolved, challenged, or refined the original concepts to address new social realities or complexities.
Paragraph 3: Theories, Methods, and Contributions
Synthesize the key concepts, research methods, and major contributions of both scholars. Focus on specific terminology (e.g., anomie, social facts, double consciousness, or the iron cage) and the methods they used to study society.
Paragraph 4: Personal Application
Apply the theories and concepts discussed above to a specific aspect or experience of your own life. Explain how these sociological “lenses” help you better understand your personal history, social identity, or daily interactions.
