What Is ABA?

To understand ABA, it is important to understand how it is different from other fields of psychology and how it is similar to and different from other branches of behavior analysis. In this assignment, you will use the seven dimensions of ABA identified in your course text and Baer et al.’s 1968 article, “Some Current Dimensions of Applied Behavior Analysis,” to identify articles that are behavior analytic and those that are not. (See

reading list.) You will also differentiate ABA from the other branches of behavior analysis; behaviorism and the experimental analysis of behavior.

For this assignment, you will read two articles provided to you by your instructorone behavior analytic and the other not. Do not use any articles other than the ones posted in the course announcements.

Then use the to complete the following:

1. Distinguish ABA from other psychological fields by identifying which of the articles is behavior analytic and which is not, and provide an explanation for your choice. Be sure to use in-text citations to back up the facts in this section.

• Be sure to identify which of the seven dimensions of ABA are present in the behavior analytic article.
• Analyze why the other article is not behavior analytic. How do you know the seven dimensions are not present? Be specific when discussing the dimensions that are present and absent.

1. Differentiate ABA from the other branches of behavior analysis, by explaining the differences and connections between ABA, behaviorism, and EBA. Be sure to use in-text citations to back up the facts in this section.

• Which aspects are shared and which aspects make them different from each other? Be sure to discuss both similarities and differences.
