Week 9: Reflection Presentation

Create a PowerPoint Presentation to share my reflection.

Describe an educational theory that most aligns with my philosophy. (The educational theory that most aligns with my philosophy is the Progressivism Theory in Education, with elements of Constructivism in Education and Humanism in Education theories. )

My Personal Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is that every student has unique strengths and inherent abilities to learn and grow academically and personally, and education should give birth to confidence and curiosity in all learners. I believe student learning should be engaging, student-centered, and relevant, all while academic content is connected to real-world experiences. Education extends beyond the mere exchange of information; it encompasses the cultivation of critical thinking, empathy, collaboration, and resilience. I aim to foster a classroom environment grounded in respect, high expectations, and inclusivity, ensuring that students feel secure enough to take chances, fail, learn, and grow from their mistakes. My philosophy is based on several key assumptions: that all students can learn when given appropriate support; that diversity enriches the learning experience; that relationships are foundational to academic success; and that education should empower students to think critically. These assumptions guide my instructional choices and interactions each day.

I hold this philosophy dear to my heart since I have witnessed, firsthand, the transformational role education can play. A nurturing and challenging climate of learning can change how students perceive themselves and their potential. I want each student to leave my classroom not only with academic knowledge, but with a belief in their own abilities. By fostering inclusion, equity, and strong relationships as well as celebrating diversity, I aim to ensure every student feels seen and supported. Ultimately, my goal is to empower students to become lifelong learners who are prepared to contribute thoughtfully and positively to their communities.

Further Instructions:

Make sure to address the following items in the presentation:

  • Why I selected the educational theory. What about it most reflects your philosophy?
  • Explain how the theory takes into consideration some of the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural contexts I am concerned about.
  • Explain and give examples of how the educational theory aligns with the dispositions of accrediting bodies most closely associated with your specialization.
  • Explain how the theory and the specialization standards support your professional and personal dispositions.
  • How has your philosophy changed as you’ve learned and grown as an educator? Describe where you see opportunities for future growth.
  • Make sure the visual quality of your presentation is what is expected in a professional conference setting.

The assignment should also meet the following requirements:

  • Speaker notes: Include your speaker notes in your PowerPoint.
  • Design quality: Employ effective design strategies to visually organize the information. Avoid colored slide backgrounds and backgrounds with texture, as they have the effect of reducing viewer comprehension. Use graphics to call attention to, highlight, and clarify information for the viewer.
  • Written communication: Make sure your writing is succinct and clear, is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting guidelines.
  • Resources: Include a minimum of three current scholarly sources (peer-reviewed articles, books, websites, and dissertations) to support your case.
