Overview

Once a group proposal has been developed, the next step in group development is to create a detailed plan or outline for each of the group sessions. Your level of organization and preparedness as a group facilitator will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the group. Building upon your Week 6 assignment, you will now go through the process of creating small group sessions to meet the needs of your target population, and to achieve your intended group outcomes.

Instructions

Create six sequential group sessions with the counseling or psychoeducational topic chosen in your Foundations of Effective Group Work: Group Proposal assignment in Week 6. The sessions should reflect your knowledge of group process and stages, format, maintenance, guided practice, and closure.

  1. Provide a detailed introduction that reviews the group title and description, purpose and rationale, objectives/goals, and theoretical foundation that were detailed in your Week 6 assignment.
  2. Next, create an outline or plan for each of your six sequential group sessions. Make sure you follow the instructions provided in the template for each session. Remove all highlighted instructions from the template before you submit your assignment.
  3. After creating an outline or plan for each of your sessions, write a 12 page summary, utilizing scholarly sources from the course, that responds to the following:

Through this theoretical lens, detail how the group facilitator (that is, counselor) will use various counseling techniques, skills, and approaches to effectively move through the stages of group counseling.   • Describe how the group facilitator will monitor progress and evaluate group outcomes.
