1. Review the Learning Resources.
2. Explore the different medications with Antipsychotic action properties using the Stahl Online Drug look up (this is the only section of the site that is free).
3. Create a Medication & Side Effect Map of common antipsychotic medication classes (typical vs atypical). Be as creative or as simple as you want (e.g., Canva, Excel, Word, hand drawings), so long as you include the following:

• General mechanisms of action (simplified, counselor appropriate, plain language)
• Common side effects that counselors should be aware of and what they may indicate
• How these side effects might show up in session (e.g., sedation, weight gain, tremors)
• A list of references at the bottom of your medication map, you do not need to cite in the map itself.

1. Create a 15 – second video SBARD Communication

• Select one of the three case vignettes in the learning resources
• Note the side effects the client is demonstrating.
• Using the Medication Map you developed, select one antipsychotic medication that might be appropriate for the person in the vignette.

1. Identify what information is most important using the SBARD approach:

S Situation: What is happening right now?

B Background: Relevant history, medication, or context.

A Assessment: Your clinical impression of the current issue.

R Recommendation: What you believe needs to happen next.

D Decision: A clear, scope-aligned statement of what you are asking the provider to consider.
