Unlike DBs and Activities, there is no assigned prompt or question. Instead, your submission should reflect on major course themes/ideas or connect what you’ve learned this week to content from previous weeks. The purpose of this post is not just to list facts you’ve learned, but to reflect on what you’ve learned and how it informs your understanding of the past. Make certain to use your own words and write clearly and give specific examples. The primary focus is your acquisition of knowledge and how the past matters in your life today. Focus on your interpretation and use the facts from the materials to support your analysis.

WDIL is worth 5 points.

The rules for WDIL are

  • Think about the various ideas and topics covered during the week.
  • Write at least 400 words (exclusive of quotes), analyzing something that was new for you in this week’s content, or something you found particularly interesting/compelling.
  • If you are not sure what to write about, go back to the learning materials or readings for ideas. There are many analytical questions sprinkled throughout the weekly material.
  • WDIL should include a clear reference to at least one clear textual example from any of the materials assigned for this week. All quoted material must be cited in APA formatting, using parenthetical citations.
  • Before you submit, please review the rubric. To earn full credit, your submission must actively analyze and reflect on course material -simply stating what you learned without any analysis will not earn full points. Statements such as-“I thought X was interesting,” “I learned X.” or “I will use X to be a better citizen.” or “X influences the way I see the world.”- do not meet the criteria.
  • The WDIL assignment is a good place to make clear personal connections between your life and beliefs and the material covered in the class materials and lectures. Connections must be clear, detailed, and specific to you and your personal life. Include a personal connection, but remember, you are sharing this with your instructor. Do not share information you wish to keep private and do not want anyone to know.
