Persuasion is pervasive in our culture. In 2004, PBS Frontline created a documentary called The Persuaders to take a closer look at how marketers and advertisers in America influence individuals in our culture; not only what products and services they buy, but how people see themselves and the world. You will need to watch this 55-minute documentary online and write a reaction paper based on what you see in this video.

I will not accept papers written by AI. I will forward those written by AI to academic affairs. You may use AI to help you organize your thoughts or to check your grammar and spelling, but you may not have AI write your paper and if I think it is, I will not accept it. And any time you use AI, you do so at your own risk because AI gives you the answer it thinks you want based on the prompt you entered it does not give you the “CORRECT” answer.

2. Write a 3-4 page reaction to this documentary using what you have learned about persuasion this semester. You must discuss at least 3 course concepts–clearly mark them in your paper –(CONCEPT ONE, CONCEPT TWO, etc.) — applying them to what you saw in the video. These may include, but are not limited to, any of the persuasive theories we have discussed, the use of specific message factors, source characteristics, or ethical issues.

3. In this paper, make sure that you are discussing these course concepts in enough depth, and connecting them to the video with enough clarity, that you are demonstrating mastery of the concepts that you are discussing. Make sure that you are incorporating specific examples from the video in order to illustrate the connections that you are making.
