7:1 Trauma and adverse life events and experiences can have a significant impact on the development of addictions. Trauma can also be very subjective, such that the same external trauma experience might impact individuals differently, even when they were both exposed to the same event or situation. Sometimes a trauma is physical as well as mental and emotional and can result in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or other long term physical condition.
