Topic: St. Helena and her search of Christianity’s relics (early relics)
- There should be FOUR PARTS to your PowerPoint presentation:
- A summary of humanities related information on your subject (include appropriate forms of media).
- The significance of the subject when it was created and today.
- A personal perspective why you chose the subject/your reaction to the subject/etc.
- A bibliography (any form is acceptable as long as it is done correctly).
) SUMMARY
- Your summary will contain the important information you gathered from your sources and the main points you want the class to consider. Biographical information is acceptable, but it should not overshadow the humanities related aspects of your presentation.
- The PowerPoint should include whatever forms of media you deem necessary to enhance the presentation (paintings, sound files, photographs, maps, etc.).
2) SIGNIFICANCE
- What makes this person, philosophy/philosopher, composition/composer, sculpture/sculptor or painting/painter worth our time?
- How has he/she/it stood the test of time?
- You must make it clear what contribution(s) the artist (or work) made to the art world, and why he/she/it continues to be significant today.
- Giving a list of information with birth/death dates, works made, and the fact that you like their art does not contribute to your discussion of significance.
- Good examples of significance:
- a. “It is significant that the ideas contained in Rousseau’s Social Contract have influenced political thought since the Enlightenment, including the writers of the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx and Frederick Engels.”
- b. Mozarts music especially his symphonies, which were composed for many musicians and had to be performed in large halls allowed the middle class to attend and enjoy concerts, which had only been enjoyed by royalty and the nobility up to that point.
3) PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
- The personal perspective should be written in the first person.
- Why was subject interesting enough for you to choose it? Or, why did it become interesting after the research began?
- This is what makes your presentation exciting to the class, so choose a topic you can be passionate about.
4) BIBLIOGRAPHY
- You will need at least two reputable sources.
- Your book is perfectly acceptable
- Wikipedia articles are acceptable (I should note, however, this is not usually the case in academic settings).
- Non-reputable sources are not acceptable.
- If you have any doubt about the validity of a source, please check with me.
- Citing in any format is acceptable so long as it is done correctly.
