MUST BE PEER REVIEWED, OPEN ACCESS ARTICLE AREN’T ACCEPTED.
The purpose of this assignment is to help me gauge the direction your research has taken, whether or not your sources are scholarly, how much you have prepared for the final project, and whether you are pulling relevant information from the article.
Please turn in a short annotated bibliography summarizing 5-10 scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles** related to your topic of interest (one of which can be your article used for the article review assignment).
For each reference include:
- APA reference/citation
- Short summary of the article
- Research questions/objectives/aims/hypotheses
- Theories used or referenced (if any)
- Participant information (age, race, SES, gender, social group, etc)
- Note: this is important as we may be able to identify gaps in the literature based on demographics. There also might be variations in the results of the study based on demographics. For example: when I study attitudes towards interracial romantic relationships, attitudes vary greatly by gender, race, immigration status, SES, etc.
- Short overview of methodology
- I recognize that you may have never taken a research methods course and therefore, methods sections can be really confusing. Look for the big picture of predictors and outcomes, what they used to collect the data (i.e. surveys, interviews, secondary data, experiments)
- Summary of Findings/main takeaways related to your topic
- How this article is beneficial to YOUR project. How will you use it? Where will you include it?
The more articles you include here, the better prepared you will be for the next steps, and the more feedback I can provide. As you are reading articles, I recommend focusing first on the literature review and the discussion before getting into the “weeds” of the methodology and results sections. You can also use the literature review of journal articles to find other articles that you might want to read.
**Please remember that open-access articles do not fit the criterion. Please see the final project page for more information on how to identify if an article is open-access.
