Instructions:

The purpose of the reflective journal paper assignment is for students to identify DSM-5 criteria opioid use disorder, dependence, withdrawal and evidence-based medication assisted treatments.

Students may choose the opioid prescribing training for full credit for this assignment or may complete the reflection assignment paper.

If not completing the above Opioid training, answer the following in a Reflective Journal Paper.

The purpose of this assignment is for students to understand medication-assisted therapy prescribed for substance use disorders.

Read Borland, et. al. section 4.4 opioid related disorders and use Stahl for a cross-reference and answer the following questions.

Answer the following questions in a one-to-two-page paper:

1. What are DSM 5 criteria for opioid use disorder and withdrawal? Define tolerance, dependence and withdrawal and differences between symptoms.
2. In reflection, what are medications used in opioid use disorder for medication assisted treatment (i.e.. suboxone, naltrexone/vivitrol, etc..)? How does this help? Mechanism of action.
3. In reflection, how could the PMHNP student talk to the client about Narcotics Anonymous or alcoholics anonymous? Address the 12 step recovery model.
4. Cite references, use at least 2 graduate level references.
