Psychological developmental challenges in Dexter

The Assignment Your goal in this project is to use what we have learned in this unit about human developmental stages to analyze how media characters demonstrate challenges to healthy development. Choose a movie or television show and analyze how the characters demonstrate challenges connected to Freuds Psychosexual Stages, Eriksons Psychosocial Stages, Piagets Cognitive Development, or Kohlbergs Moral Development. Step 1: Identify Three Challenges Describe a developmental challenge faced by the character(s). Use terms and explanations from our textbook and class PowerPoints (in your own words, but cite sources). Example: A character who struggles with trust could be explained using Eriksons stage of Trust vs. Mistrust, or a character showing egocentrism might be explained through Piagets Preoperational Stage. Step 2: Explain Why These Challenges Matter For the challenge, explain why this issue is important for development. How does it affect social, emotional, or cognitive growth? What might happen if the challenge is not resolved? Step 3: Provide Recommendations For the challenge, come up with two recommendations for healthy development (6 total). Recommendations should connect to class material and research. Example: To address Eriksons Identity vs. Role Confusion, you could suggest therapy focused on self-concept and supportive peer relationships. Topics to Address and Format You must show that you understand and can apply at least three different developmental theories (Freud, Erikson, Piaget, Kohlberg).
