Instructions for Project-Related Assignment #2: Protocol, Ethics, & Data Collection

The Project-Related Assignment #2 is a continuation of work on the Final Project. The purpose of having students complete this assignment is for students to apply concepts from the textbook chapters to specific sections of the project. It is also an opportunity to complete draft sections of the Final Project due at the end of the semester.

Please note that the data collection portion is just an exercise to reinforce what you studied over the past weeks. It does not mean that you are required to use a primary study or a tertiary approach for your project.

Use the topic you submitted for the Research Topic & Question Selection assignment. If your topic and/or question needs to be modified based on my initial feedback, please go ahead, and make the change(s).

Part 1: Study Topic [11 points]

State your research question (remember to update it if applicable) [3 points].

1. Include a paragraph that describes the purpose of the study and your population of interest [3 points].
2. Include a paragraph that describes your selected study design (these are summarized in Chapter 7 and addressed in Chapters 8-15). In your explanation, please put the information in your own words, so that it is clear you understand the application of your study design [5 points].

Part 2: Ethics [10 points]

1. Based on Chapter 17, what are three ethical considerations specific to your project if you were going to use a primary study approach? Please explain your answers [6 points].
2. Based on Chapter 18, discuss one thing related to the ethical review and application process that you would have to factor in your project if you were conducting a primary study [4 points].

Part 3: Survey (covered in Chapter 21) [12 points]

The survey should consist of six questions and should include the following question types. Make sure you put the name of the question type by each question:

1. One numeric question
2. One categorical yes/no question
3. One ordinal (ranked) question
4. One categorical (no rank) question
5. One paired comparison question
6. One rank-ordering question

Please note that the questions should be relevant to your topic and main research question.

Part 4: Qualitative Method (Covered in Chapter 23) [11 points]

1. Select qualitative method you could use to answer your research question and explain why [2 points].
2. Please give an example of how you would employ that specific method to answer your question. For example, if you select a focus group, describe how it could apply in your situation [3 points].
3. Provide three sample questions [6 points].

Miscellaneous [6 points]

1. Have a title page. Please make sure that the title page is in APA Style 7.0 [2 points].
2. Formatting & organization of the paper [2 points].
3. Submit the paper as a Word document (double-spaced, Times New Romans, black, 12-point font) [2 points].
