The policy brief should include the following format: Title 1 paragraph summary Statement of problem (context and scope) Current policies intended to address the problem (if applicable) and their limitations Potential alternative policies and their pros/cons Policy recommendation Reference list (APA format) The policy brief should be formatted as a brief (examples will be provided in class) rather than an academic paper. It is intended to communicate in a succinct and appealing manner, so students should include visuals, subheadings, text boxes, bullet points, and other organizational/aesthetic elements. Proposed policy alternatives and recommendations can be ambitious but cannot be prohibited under the U.S. Constitution (e.g., cannot involve violations of individual rights or prohibited expansions of federal power). Final product should be uploaded to canvas as a PDF (to ensure that your formatting does not get distorted when opened). Use of Images, Tables, and Figures: You are encouraged to use images, tables and figures as appropriate to illustrate key points and to make the brief aesthetically appealing. However, the majority of the 3 pages should be text (your original writing).
