Personal, Professional, and Academic Persuasion

For this assignment, you will describe and analyze three persuasive messages or communications a personal, professional, and academic example from your experience. Your reflection will include the following:

  • an opening paragraph
  • three body paragraphs (one paragraph for each example)
  • a concluding paragraph.

Since you will be writing about your personal, professional, and academic experiences, using “I” and first-person pronouns is fine when describing each example.

EACH BODY PARAGRAPH SHOULD:DESCRIBE

  • Identify the audience, setting, and purpose of each example (e.g., managers at an IT company discussing a four-day workweek).
  • Include details about the persuasive messages and the information exchangedconsider using dialogue and description.

ANALYZE

  • Provide two reasons for the effectiveness of each example, focusing on techniques like tone, word choice, and evidence (e.g., successful case studies of a four-day workweek). For instance, did the speaker provide concrete examples of companies successfully implementing a four-day work schedule?

CONNECT

  • Explain how each example illustrates a concept from Flower’s intercultural rhetoric, such as rival hypotheses, the story-behind-the-story, or options and outcomes. For example, did the manager consider a rival hypothesis, such as the cost of moving to a four-day workweek?

STRUCTURE:

  • Start with a brief introduction (24 sentences) that presents the main point of your reflection.
  • Conclude with a short summary (24 sentences) of your key points.
  • Follow APA formatting guidelines, using the PIE method (point, illustrate, explain) in body paragraphs for clarity and coherence.
  • Include an APA references list
