PSYCHOLOGY 236-MINTZ-SPRING 2026 Research paper assignment. The assignment is to write an APA paper that describes a physical, cognitive, or emotional disorder and examine its effects on development. You will choose a physical disorder from ICD-11, or a cognitive or emotional disorder from DSM-5-TR and write a paper about it. Please include the following: 1) An abstract of no more than half a page. 2) A description of the disorder, including the signs and symptoms, as well as incidence and prevalence rates. Ensure that you properly site all sources used, including DSM-5-TR or ICD-11, as applicable. This portion of your paper should be approximately 1-2 pages. 3) A discussion of the risk factors for developing the disorder and the, causes, or etiological theories of the disorder according to the literature. This portion of the paper should be approximately 1-2 pages. 4) A discussion of the disorders effect on development. Include as many aspects of development (cognitive, physical, psychological, social, etc.), as are applicable. This portion of the paper should be 1-2 pages. 5) Discuss possible treatments of the disorder. You can either discuss multiple types of treatment options briefly, or provide a more in-depth analysis of one treatment option. This portion of the paper should be 1-2 pages. 6) A brief conclusion section, no more than one paragraph. Additional information: 1) The paper must be a minimum of 5 pages, and a maximum 7 pages, of content (the abstract page will count as 12 a page). 2) The paper must be in APA format and include all elements of an APA paper. If you need a refresher on this, reference the recommended book for this class (listed on the syllabus). 3) You must utilize a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed sources and it is recommended that you use DSM-5-TR and ICD-11 as necessary. Ensure that you site all sources appropriately throughout. NOTE: If you do not include the title of the journal in the reference page, I will have no way to know that you used a peer reviewed source so please be sure to include that in your reference page. 4) As a student at AVC, you have free access to EBSCOHOST.
