Discussion 3: Social Problems and the Teacher’s Role

As a follow-up to last weeks discussion, I would like us to look at the next level of dissecting the many issues faced by teachers. In today’s society many social issues tend to be addressed by schools. Many teachers do not believe that it is their job to address these issues. Should schools be responsible for addressing our social problems or just for educating the students?

Instructions

Students should complete assigned readings and consult the Discussion Board Guidelines and Advice and the Discussion Rubric before posting in the Discussion Board for each module. Active participation on at least three days is required for full credit.

• Your first post is due by 11:59 PM on Wednesday and should respond to all aspects of the discussion, promote dialogue and discussion, and include necessary citations where appropriate.
• You must submit at least 3 quality peer-responses which move the discussion forward and invite discussion in a constructive manner. Comments such as I agree with no additional discussion do not count as quality peer-responses.
