Module 9 Discussion Capstone class

This week, you are to watch ‘Skeleton Twins’. ‘Skeleton Twins, is an off-kilter sense of humor, as well as a pervasive feeling of loneliness and regret, provides a more complex and far more human vibe.

The movie came out in 2014 and stars Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader; Maggie and Milo, twins who live across the country from each other and havent spoken in a decade. She stayed in their hometown of Nyack, N.Y., got married and became a dental hygienist; he moved to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming an actor but instead works as a waiter. Their father committed suicide when they were 14. Their mother is a selfish self-help guru.

I think you’ll find this film intriguing in a variety of ways. I’ve be posted a PPT to help you explore specific aspects of the film this week.

Questions to answer

Maggie & Milo are fraternal twins of the opposite sex so that means they’d come from separate ovum and have separate amniotic sacs. What if Milo wasn’t supposed to be able to untie Maggie from the weights? Would this be a reflection of how they started?

How would you diagnose Maggie? Milo? What shocked you with the film and its presentation?

In their respective costumes that they choose for themselves, are Maggie and Milo expressing some hidden part of themselves, a wish, or a fantasy of some sort? Do the costumes represent an exaggerated version of themselves or the opposite of how they appear to others?
