Module 4 Discussion

Part I:

In the world of sport management, performance appraisals often focus on skills, results, and leadership qualities. However, using personality traits as part of performance evaluations can lead to specific challenges.

Question:

What are at least three potential problems that could arise when personality traits are used as criteria for evaluating performance in sport management roles? Additionally, mention two types of jobs within sports organizations (e.g., event coordinator, marketing specialist, coach, facility manager) where assessing personality traits might actually be appropriate for evaluating performance, and explain why.

Note: Think about how personality influences teamwork, leadership, or client interactions in sports settings.

Part II:

Peer evaluations are common in many workplaces, including sports teams, clubs, or organization staff.

Question:

Have you ever been evaluated by your colleagues or team members? If so, reflect on at least three advantages and three disadvantages of peer evaluations in a sport management context.

For example: How can peer feedback improve team cohesion? What are some risks or downsides?

Finally, identify one thing you would change or improve about the peer evaluation process to make it more effective and fair in a sport organization setting.

After answering, provide one (1) additional, original question related to this scenario for the next student to respond to for this discussion.

Discussions are meant to be developed utilizing personal experiences/opinions and written as such. Failure to utilize first person language, “I” and “my” within the narrative may affect your grade. Students are expected to post a minimum of three (3) times per week for each discussion topic. This is to include one (1) post original response to the discussion and two (2) thorough (at least a FULL paragraph in length, not 2-3 sentences) feedback responses on other student postings for full credit.
