Meiosis mitosis

Goal

Explore the processes of mitosis and meiosis, compare their steps and purposes, and describe the differences between plant and animal cell division.

To achieve this goal, we will be completing the interactives below in class:

If you missed class, please follow the instructions below:

Make-Up Assignment: Mitosis & Meiosis in Plants and Animals

Instructions

  • Access the Interactive Simulations
  • Complete the Simulations
  • Go through each simulation from start to finish.
    • Take notes on:
      • Each stage of the process (names & what happens)
      • The purpose of each process in the cell/organism
      • Key structural features you notice in plant vs. animal cells
  • Create Your Summary
  • In Google Slides, make 56 slides:
    • Title Slide Your name and title: Mitosis & Meiosis: Plant and Animal Cells
    • Mitosis Overview List stages in order with 12 bullet points per stage.
    • Meiosis Overview List stages in order with 12 bullet points per stage (you can combine Meiosis I & II or separate).
    • Similarities & Differences Between Mitosis and Meiosis Purpose, number of divisions, outcomes, chromosome behavior.
    • Plant vs. Animal Cell Differences Focus on structures and division specifics (e.g., cell plate vs. cleavage furrow, centrioles, gamete production).
    • Visuals Include 12 labeled images or screenshots from the simulations.
  • Submit
    • Share your Google Slides link in this assignment (make sure its set to Anyone with the link can view).
    • You can also create a PDF or Word document with the above information

Tip:
You can replay simulation sections if you need to review the visual details before writing your notes.
