Using material presented in the course (e.g., theories of or research on human development), reflect on and write about the characteristics, events, and circumstances that in your own opinion have had an important impact on your life. You may choose to walk through your life from your earliest memories to the present day, focusing on relevant theories and research to discuss the characteristics, events, and circumstances that are most meaningful to you. For example, you may wish write about how your family and peer interactions in childhood shape your adulthood or how you have created your identity (e.g., career choice or spirituality). As we learn and read about the different topics and periods of development, I recommend noticing/locating you and your story in these topics and periods of development and work on your autobiography study over the course of the quarter. Be as specific and rich in your autobiography as possible. Guiding prompt: How has your environment and or culture influenced your development? Foremost: This is not an essay or a paper. You are required to step away from the standardized college essay. Instead, the body of work you produce can be and not limited to: Power Point, Canva (or similar platform) (minimum 10 slides; okay to be more than 10 slides). Poster (electronic or hand-crafted) Zine Video (15 – 20 min.) Audio (15 – 20 min.) Newsletter/magazine format This is the grading criteria: Work that merits 90 -100% is truly distinctive is evident of: Creative (moved away from a standard essay) understanding of developmental key terms, perspectives, by applying and or explaining theories, frameworks, and or models synthesis through meaningful connections and appropriate sources, citations, and references. presents research, and personal experience in a reflective manner. It evidences revision, evaluation, and personal investment. It demonstrates awareness and through critical thinking the impact of the material upon the individuals and systems involved. It is reflective and makes some connections with prior knowledge and experience. Autobiography starts to integrate theory and research. Work is evident of use of sources, citation and engagement. 45 pts Meets 75% – meets basic requirements. It meets the guidelines for the assignment but shows little engagement, demonstrated by answering only the prompts, with little to no synthesis, and demonstrates a surface of understanding of the material. The work lacks depth or evidence of reflective thought. It lacks, cohesiveness or transitions and fails to make appropriate connections, use of sources and time management, and or citations. 39 pts Below 65% – does not meet from one or more of the following guidelines: does not reflect on the assignment at all, no evidence of basic understanding, incoherent thoughts, missing connections, key terms and concepts and lack of appropriate examples.
