Learning Portfolio

Feedback Described from Prof. – I’m reading your Learning Portfolio and see some issues that I’d like for you to address before I do a final review of it. There are some problems with APA throughout that could be an issue, so I’m pointing them out now rather than proceed with grading. Many of the connections you make to the literature are verbatim from the texts.

Here’s an example sentence I’ve copied & pasted from your work:

A cultural audit is designed to help educators capitalize on campus strengths, recognize weaknesses, and build collaborations across departments to foster development of context-appropriate dimensions of civic responsibility (Thornton & Jaeger, 2007). While you’ve used an in-text citation here, it is not a complete, proper handling of the material. A citation like you have formatted here suggests to the reader that you’ve paraphrased the material. When using a direct quote, however, you must use “” around the authors’ words and include page number in the citation to show the reader that you have used their words directly. I noticed this throughout your work. Obviously this is problematic (technically it is plagiarism) and thus needs to be corrected.

How about you go back into the Learning Portfolio and the individual Cultural Audit paper and make corrections–it’s critically important that you learn how to properly quote and cite others’ work so as to avoid attribution issues that can come with severe consequences at this level. This is also why I like to use Turnitin and let you see your originality report immediately so that you can spot such issues and correct them before submission–which helps you see such mistakes and get into good writing habits.
