Finding Information Resources : Research Documentation Assignment Purpose The purpose of this assignment is to assemble potential sources for your research project, as well as reflect on your purpose and audience. You have already done significant critical thinking and invention that helped you to develop your research question and determine options for genre and medium; now, you will conduct research related to your research question. The sources you collect and analyze will be the foundation for your research project in the course. Whatever avenue you pursue, you should have a specific audience in mind for the project. You should also research the style and genre you want to pursue for the research project. Think carefully about your purpose, audience, context, and medium, as well as the strategies you will use to develop the most effective project outcome. Instructions Your research documentation assignment will consist of two elements: 1) a research narrative and 2) a bibliography of your potential sources. Your research narrative should address the following: Scope, Defines your research project and its parameters, including a brief description of genre and/or medium. To complete this section, you should perform background research using the FSW libraries. You may use the catalog and any of the reference and media databases relevant to your area of interest. Your background research can include primary, secondary, and/or tertiary sources. Approach/Perspective, Defines your critical lens, method(s), philosophy, strategies, and/or design of the research project. In this section, you should reflect on your knowledge, purposes, and reasoning for pursuing your topic and research question. Your reflection should answer the following questions: What have you learned in your college courses that has helped you shape your topic and research question? What is your background knowledge about this topic? Why is this topic important to you? Why would this topic be important to a potential audience? Process and plan, Describes your research process and provides an overview of your plan of execution for the project. Context. Defines your audience, briefly situates your work in a scholarly conversation, including what you have learned in your general education courses, and provides a reflection on the background for your project. The narrative portion of your research documentation assignment should be at least 750 words. You should have at least 10 potential sources for your bibliography.
