Fieldwork Assignment: IEP Analysis Purpose: The IEP Fieldwork Assignment is designed to connect assessment data to IEP goal development. Required Classroom Activities:
Review at least two student IEPs. If needed, these can be de-identified.
Analyze how assessment data was used to develop goals and how progress is being monitored.
Interview your cooperating teacher or a special education teacher in your setting about data collection and family communication. Assignment Product:
In a 4-5 page, APA formatted paper, discuss:
Discuss how assessment data (formal and inform) was used to develop the IEP for the students you reviewed.
Analyze the clarity and measurability of the goals you reviewed. Discuss to what extent these goals are appropriate for the student.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the progress monitoring and data collection process.
Reflect on family and interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the process.

The teacher looks at the students history, students scores for testing, what areas the student is lacking. When these goals are created they are monitored every two weeks to see if there is progress being made. Assessments and material that has been used within the classroom helps monitor their progress.
