This is my topic and below I want to give you a feeling of what the hybrid reflective research essay will be about. No AI. and MLA format.
What is the deliverable (the finished product)?
My finished product will be a hybrid reflective research essay about what it feels like being Hispanic/Latina in today’s political environment. In this hybrid reflective research essay I have included my personal experiences, interviews with family members, people from my community, and research from articles that contain studies about immigration policies, discrimination, and mental health in Latino communities.
Is it print based, online, or multi media? Why?
My final product will be print based since its a hybrid reflective research essay. I chose this form because I’m not really the type of person to who shares things on social media or through videos, so writing felt like the best way for me to express my ideas An essay also lets me explain my experiences, including interviews and connect them with research in a way that flows better. I feel like writing it this format will help readers understand the topic more clearly.
Who is the specific intended audience for your project?
My intended audience is mainly college students or young adults who are interested in reading about immigration topics or staying informed about immigration issues. It could also be useful for people who are doing research about Hispanic and Latina communities because my essay shares real life experience and help put readers in my shoes. i also think it could be helpful for students who are interested in social issues, identity, or learning more about different perspectives.
What stance are you taking? Why? What affect do you hope it has? (stance is tone, voice, etc)
My stance is personal and reflective, and I want my tone to feel real and relatable instead of overly formal. I dont want my essay to sound like every other paper. I want my audience to actually feel like they are in my shoes and understand some of the struggles that Hispanic people go through. It may not happen every single day, but it still affects us in ways that we have to live with. Im not trying to make people feel bad or guilty, and thats not my goal. I just want to inform readers about what our community goes through by sharing real experiences. I hope my essay helps readers understand what these situations feel like from my perspective and from other Latino people who actually experience them. I also want it to make readers think more deeply about how politics and policies can affect peoples everyday lives.
How will your stance (tone) directly speak to your intended audience?
The tone Im aiming for is honest, relatable, and easy to understand, which is a good fit for my audience of young adults and people interested in immigration and social issues. This tone works because I dont want my readers to feel pity or guilty; instead, I want them to genuinely understand what its like to live as a Hispanic or Latina person in todays political world. By keeping my writing personal and reflective, I hope my audience connects with the stories I share, sees the real emotions behind the experiences, and thinks more deeply about how politics and policies affect everyday lives. Making the tone approachable and human helps my readers feel like theyre walking in my shoes rather than just reading facts or statistics.
When incorporating research into your project, will you be using direct quotation, summarization, or both? Why?
I will be using both direct quotations and summarizing. I want to use quotes when a source explains something really clearly or strongly, especially studies or expert opinions. I will summarize information when I am explaining research in my own words so it connects better with the points I am making in my essay.
How do you plan on completing in text citations?
I plan to use MLA format for my in-text citations because thats what we usually use in class. When I include information from a source, Ill put the authors last name in parentheses right after the sentence or quote. This way, its clear what ideas come from research and what comes from my own experiences or interviews. Using MLA will help me keep everything organized and make sure I give proper credit to the people whose work Im using.
How do you plan conveying your research source information into your final project? Will you include a formal document, like an MLA Works Cited Page or Bibliography, or will you be presenting the information in a different way? Please explain.
I will include a Works Cited page in MLA format at the end of my essay. This will list all the articles and sources I used for my research. This way readers can see where my information came from and it also makes my essay more credible.
Will your project include the minimum word count for the project? If not, what rhetorical choices have you made that may not translate directly into word count, but should be counted for this requirement?
Yes, my project will include the minimum word count. My essay will meet the required length because I will be including personal reflection, interviews, and research. All of these together will help me fully explain my topic and support my ideas.
1) What research do you need to complete on the subject/topic of your project?
For my project, I want to interview friends, family, and other Hispanic people who are willing to share their experiences, especially times when they felt like they didnt belong or when social pressure affected their mental health. Ill also reflect on my own story and how immigration policies, discrimination, and movements targeting Latino communities shaped my life. On top of that, I want to look at credible articles and studies showing how Hispanic and Latino communities are often affected the most by political and social issues. Ill also research historical laws and policies that have impacted Hispanic communities so I can show how the past connects to whats happening now. (This strengthens ethos because it shows Im including real experiences, including my own, and it strengthens logos because Im backing up personal stories with research and historical facts.)
2) Where will you need sources to strengthen the ethos and/or logos of your paper?
Ill need sources mainly for the political and historical parts of my essay. Since a lot of my essay is based on personal experiences and stories from other Hispanic people, I want articles and studies that back up what were feeling and going through. I especially need sources about immigration laws, discrimination, and how political decisions affect Hispanic communities in Arizona and the U.S. I also want info about mental health in Latino communities because stress, fear, and pressure from society affect so many people. (This strengthens ethos because it shows Im informed and using credible sources to support the stories I share, and it strengthens logos because it adds facts and research to back up my points.)
3) What research do you need to complete on the form/genre of your project?
My project is a reflective research essay, so I need to research how to combine personal stories, interviews, and research in a way that makes sense. I want to see examples of other essays that mix personal experiences with research so I can figure out how to transition between reflection and facts without losing my voice. I also want tips on organizing an essay like this so it flows and is easy to read. (This strengthens ethos because it helps me present my ideas in a clear, trustworthy way, and it strengthens logos because it helps me connect stories to research in a logical way.)
4) Add a rough/estimated percentage of total research to each of the two categories (they should equal 100%). Please give your reasoning for your answers.
Topic Research: 70%
Form/Genre Research: 30%
Most of my research will focus on the topic because I need strong evidence about social and political issues affecting Hispanic communities. Even though I have personal experiences to write about, I still need credible sources to show that what Im writing about is real and happens to more people. Ill spend less time on genre research because I already know a bit about reflective writing, but I still need guidance on how to combine research and personal stories in a way that makes sense. (This strengthens ethos because it shows I know how to write and structure the essay, and it strengthens logos because it makes my argument clear and supported by evidence.)
The citations i will be using are below

Sanchez and Pedoza explain how the new immigration policy is creating fear/stress not just to immigrants but to the latino communities, affecting many families’ everyday lives. This source will back up one of my many points on how today political policies affect us latino communities. It will show that not only my community is affected but others around the U.S.

This article explains how immigration debates and political tensions affect Latino mental health. Also, discusses deportation, policies, and discrimination can cause anxiety and stress in communities. The article shares research from a study that shows these political issues affect how safe and stable people feel like being hispanic or latino today, and how mental healthis a big part of that experience. This is going to help show that the imact is not just political but also emotional and personal.
Interviews with Hispanic communities/Individuals.
For this part of my research I will interview at least three people who are hispanic or latino and ask them about their experiences living in today’s political world. I want to see how many were affected mentally, been discriminated against or even felt fear for any loved one. And how today’s politics is changing their lives in a negative way. These interviews will not only back up the other sources but it will put my readers in their shoes and question themselves how they will be affected.
Sanchez,Gabriel R.,and Edward D. Vargas. Racial Profiling by ICE will have a marked imacct on Latino Communities.
.
This article discusses how immigration enforcement practices, including racial profiling, will continue to affect latino communities, making peole feel unsafe or targeted even if they are U.S Citizens or Residents. It describes how agents sometimes operate in plain clothes, masks, armed, and unmarked vehicles, which can be confusing and frightening for people. This article helps support my essay because it adds evidence about why many hispanic people feel fear and mistrust towards law enforcement not just from personal experience but from documented practices and concerns.
