Project Step 2: Health Problem Distribution
Project Step2Health Problem Distribution
Overview
The semester long project is designed to help integrate the concepts in each module. Last module, you found your HP 2030 goal, This week, you will relate the module’s topic of epidemiology.
This week the topic is: Finding the Distribution of your chosen health problem (how much, who, where)
Key Takeaways:
- *Epidemiology is concerned with the distribution (HOW MUCH, WHO & WHERE) of types of illnesses and injuries in groups of people and with the factors that influence their distribution. These are the “why” factors. We will address them in the next unit.
- *Your slides should tell the viewer the “snapshot” of your problem. Where is it? Who has it? How common is it? (prevalence)
- *This is just like you did for current events for the last assignment, this is just applying the epidemiology to your chosen problem.
Concept Review & Application
This week you will be the epidemiologist evaluate your problem. Where and when is it most predominant? Who is it impacting? You won’t be running actual studies to look at disease or problem rates, but you will be using the literature to find out what others discovered. These slides should give us an overview of your problem’s DISTRIBUTION. That includes:
- How common is the problem (ie x% of adults, 1 in x children). You can use death numbers as well. (X kills y many people a year). That will be your marker of prevalence, incidence or rates. All of these are ok for an introduction class, but know in advanced work, these are more specific.
- Who is impacted? Show the reader a “picture” of who is having this problem.
- How is your problem distributed across the population (age, gender, race)?
- Make sure to numbers to describe these.
Instructions
- Return to your area of interest and goal. Search the internet for distribution on your data on your problem. You can try that with phrases like “prevalence of (your problem)” “distribution of (your topic)” or even “how common is (your problem)
- Then you will narrow it down by race, gender and age. Search tips are “racial distribution of (your topic)” “gender distribution of (your topic)”etc for each category. If you use AI, you will need to still find the primary reference!
- Use the information to fill out the template exactly.
- For the last slide cite an interesting fact with reference.
- Add these slides to the end of your presentation you started in the last step.
- All Slides: fact(s) must be properly noted on the slide with in-text citations
- Add your references to the reference slide from last step.
- Put the reference slide at the end
- Upload all the slides starting with the title slide from Step 1 including the ones added this week.
Examples and Templates
Look at my example…seriously, look at my example! Use it to get hints for your own! Then use the template to create your slides. Most students find it helpful to review the example first.
