( I attached a example of what i need do)
Introduction
One of the requirements of PHSC 2 is to take a field trip! However, as this is an online class, it’s not easy to coordinate a whole class trip! So instead, you each get to design your own field trip and field trip guide pamphlet! The goal of your pamphlet is to guide a student or tourist along a route with 4 stops that relate to topics of the class (rock formations, lakes, etc). You do not have to physically GO to the stops. Use the internet!
The Project
A rubric is available and you can see it below. Use it to your advantage!
A picture and description of the stop should be described (pictures can come from the internet or if you decide to go yourself and use your own pictures, go for it!). Make sure to describe the formation(s) and use the correct terms found in our text. You should also include a screenshot of a map which outlines the trail or drive that will be done by the tourist. After completing your pamphlet, you will also submit a 1-2 paragraph reflection of the project.
Please note that the pamphlet example does not really describe the Earth Science/geology of the trip stops, so it’s not perfect. Also, while they cite their sources, Wikipedia is not a trustworthy source of information. You can use it for images, just not actual information here.
Your pamphlet should be set up as a trifold, resulting in 6 pages:
- The front page is your title and outline of stops and map
- The next 4 pages are your 4 stops (1 page per stop). At least one picture per stop.
- The final page should be a list of your sources. Your text is a great resource!
You can find templates for pamphlets all over the internet. Here are some links:
Things to include in your reflection:
- Where you chose to visit
- Why you chose the destination(s)
- Did you enjoy the project? Why or why not?
- Did you run into any difficulties? How did you solve them?
- Did you go your trip? If not, do you have any plans to do it?
Some ideas of destinations:
- The Grand Canyon
- Red Rock Canyon
- Valley of Fire
- Petrified Forest
- Death Valley
- Cajon Pass
- Joshua Tree
- Mount Baldy
- Big Bear
- Lake Arrowhead
- And more!
I truly want you all to have fun with the project. Any feedback you have will be greatly appreciated!
Im choosing
For my field trip project, I’m planning on focusing on the Mojave Desert, specifically places like Death Valley or Red Rock Canyon. I chose this area because it has a lot of unique geological features that connect directly to what we’ve been learning in class, like rock formations, erosion, and how climate affects the landscape. Since the desert environment is very dry and extreme, it’s a good example of how weathering and erosion happen over long periods of time. There are also features like dry lake beds and layered rocks that can show evidence of Earth’s past conditions.
