Project: Students will evaluate executive orders of our current executive leader. Students will discuss both positive and negative executive orders and present them in class on our presentation day logically and passionately. It is worth 100 points. This assignment is designed to develop marketability skills of students, and the goal is to help students market themselves to future employers. Students will evaluate the current presidents executive performance for the past 12 months, and they must give a presentation in class without reading anything. Note cards or cellphones are not allowed during the presentation. First, define what democracy means to you. Next, name one action that you support, and name another action that you criticize. Please pick an executive order he/she signed in the past 12 months. Students are expected to present logically, accurately, and passionately, and it must be for one full minute. Students are expected to describe how his/her actions affected them personally through executive actions for the past 12 months. Executive orders can be found easily online, and librarians at Dallas College can also help students complete this assignment successfully. In addition, writing tutors are available at Dallas College, and more information is available if they visit https://www.dallascollege.edu/resources/tutoring/pages/default.aspx. Students can enjoy working with writing tutors at Dallas College either face-to-face or online, and the cost is free to eligible students at Dallas College. The assignment is worth 100 points, and the following rubric will be used to evaluate the submitted project.

Project Rubric:

  1. Your typed and printed outline is submitted on time. (10 pts)
  2. Your outline contains 4 sentences total and 2 resources. (10 pts)
  3. You presented it for one full minute in class on our project day. (10 pts)
  4. You defined democracy in your own words. (10 pts)
  5. You picked one positive action from the past 12 months, and you explained why you supported it. (10 pts)
  6. You picked one negative action from the past 12 months, and you explained why you criticized it. (10 pts)
  7. Your project is logical, coherent, and passionate. (30 pts)
  8. Your project outline was submitted with accurate information with proper links resources (2) using MLA or APA. (10 pts)
  9. Due to the timely submission of the grade, there is no late presentation. Only in the event of an emergency, students will be able to present after the due date if they can provide proper documentation. Examples include car accidents or hospitalizations. Students will only receive 50 points maximum.
  10. Students will lose additional 50 participation points from 1,000 points if they do not present in class on the day of our presentation.
  11. Please be respectful during the entire presentation and listen attentively to the speaker. Students will lose 30 points from the total points (100) if they are disrespectful to the presenter. For example, 30 points will be deducted if they use cellphones or study their outlines while someone is presenting. Also, 30 points will be deducted if students leave the classroom early on the day of the presentation. Students are expected to stay in the room and listen attentively to presenters for the entire class period.

Project Format

  1. Define what democracy means to you in your own words.
  2. Describe the current presidents positive action and explain whether it was democratic or not.
  3. Describe the current presidents negative action and explain whether it was democratic or not.
  4. Explain how his/her actions affected you, your family, and your neighbors this year.
  5. Citation (MLA or APA)
