The human excretory system removes metabolic waste and maintains homeostasis through filtration and osmoregulation.Key Components
Kidneys: Filter blood to remove urea and excess salts.
Ureters: Tubes that transport urine from kidneys to the bladder.
Urinary Bladder: Muscular sac that stores urine until excretion.
Urethra: The canal through which urine exits the body.
The Filtration Process
The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron. It operates through three main stages:
Glomerular Filtration: Blood pressure forces water and solutes out of the capillaries into the Bowman’s capsule.
Tubular Reabsorption: The body reclaims useful substances like glucose, ions, and water.
Tubular Secretion: Additional wastes and hydrogen ions are added to the filtrate to form urine.
