TASK: Attend at least one recovery related event in your community. You can choose a number of events including but not limited to 12 step meetings, drug court hearings, or speakers talking about drug policy, addiction, prevention, or other related topic. Other events or activities may be permissible as well but you must attend them this semester and if you are at all unsure if an event qualifies contact your instructor. It is your responsibility to locate and select the activity you wish to attend.
15 points:
Detailed description of the event you attended including date, time, and location. Include
why you selected the event, what happened, and who the participants were (i.e. number,
gender, and estimate of age ranges names are not necessary). Describe how you were
able to find the event including how easy the event was to find.
15 points:
Analysis of strengths and weaknesses of the event: Drawing on things you learned in
class, do you think the event / activity would promote recovery? Are there certain types
of people you think would benefit more from the event than others? Considering lessons
learned in class, describe aspects that you believe tie into good practice / policy as well
as aspects that were of concern.
It is very important you explicitly connect some aspect of lessons from class to what
you experience during this activity. This component is worth 5 points of this section
alone; failure to do this will cost you 10% of your total grade on this paper!
10 points:
Describe your reaction to the event on an emotional level what was your gut
reaction? How do you think an addict trying to get clean would respond to the event?
Was the experience what you expected or something entirely different?
10 points:
Use proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and organization. It is advisable to use
headers to help organize main components of the paper.
