Ethic Research Presentation

Introduction

The major project deliverable in this course is a research presentation. For this assignment, you will research a controversial ethical issue and submit a detailed presentation that summarizes the issue in an attempt to inspire discussion.

Instructions

The following is the process you’ll follow to complete this presentation.

  • Pick a controversial ethical topic or moral issue. Post your topic to the activity and await your instructor’s response. It is best to keep the topic very focused for this short assignment.
  • Decide what your position is on the topic and prepare to explain why. Pick one or more ethical theories to justify your beliefs about the topic.
  • Conduct quality research on the topic and present that research. A good topic of choice will feature at least five professional sources from the
  • database. Unbiased articles and academic studies are best. Examples are scholarly periodicals, journals, books, research forums, and Internet periodicals by reputable organizations. You may also use reputable news media (Newsweek, Time, government publications, and websites), but these do not count toward your total reference requirement (five required). Do not use encyclopedias, dictionaries, Wikipedia, popular forums, or Internet websites.
  • Develop an outline using the research to provide brief details about the summary of both sides of the topic, your opinion, conclusion, and relevant questions. You will submit this in the
  • Create a 10-minute slide-style presentation with accompanying audio. Refer to the for other available software options. Present both sides of the issue fairly; then justify your viewpoint. End with at least three ethical discussion questions about the topic. Include a slide that lists your references in APA format (see the presentation outline section). Make sure your presentation features an appropriate number of slides and presents the information as clearly as possible. Avoid including slides with too many words, a lack of clarity, and poor grammar. Use illustrations where appropriate. Utilize the notes section of the slide for large chunks of text or supporting information. Review the for grading criteria.

Euthanasia — Directly or indirectly bringing about the death of another person for that person’s sake.

Advance directive — A legal document allowing a physician to withhold or withdraw treatments from a patient who becomes terminally ill and is unable to express his/her wishes.

Voluntary Euthanasia — performed on a person with that person’s permission.

Nonvoluntary euthanasia — Euthanasia performed on a person who is not competent to decide the issue and has left no instructions regarding end-of-life preferences. In such cases, family members or physicians usually make the decision.

Involuntary euthanasia – Euthanasia performed on a person against that person’s wishes.

Active euthanasia — Euthanasia performed by taking a direct action to cause someone’s death: “mercy killing”.

Passive euthanasia — Euthanasia performed by withholding or withdrawing measures necessary for sustaining life.

Physician-assisted suicide — The killing of a person by that person’s own hand with the help of a physician.
