Energy Balance and Efficiency of the Food Chain CITATIONS

Instructions for Citation Submission Food Energy Project

ONLY DOING CITATIONS

For this assignment, I will research one vegetable (or fruit) and one meat to determine the energy balance of each food. The goal is to find the amount of energy contained in the food and compare it to the amount of energy required to produce the food.

For each food, I will locate sources that provide the following information:

  1. The number of Calories in one pound of the food.
  2. The amount of energy required to produce one pound of the food (or another unit that can be converted to pounds).

The sources must be credible and clearly cited. If a Wikipedia page is used to find information, the original source cited by Wikipedia must be used instead.

For each food, I will submit:

The name of the food

The number of Calories per pound

The energy required to produce the food (with units such as BTU, MJ, or Calories)

The citation for the source where the numbers were found

If the energy required to produce the food is listed in a different unit or quantity (such as MJ per kilogram or energy per bushel), I will convert the value so that it matches the unit of Calories per pound. These numbers will later be used to calculate the energy balance of the food.

Energy balance will be calculated as:

Energy balance = Energy contained in the food Energy required to produce the food

All sources will be listed in APA 7th edition format in the references section of the final report.
