Purpose As we near the end of the semester, this discussion invites you to apply your understanding of sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to a celebration or gathering that is meaningful to you. While many in the U.S. may have connected at the end of last year for Thanksgiving, you are encouraged to reflect on any holiday, festival, or tradition from your own background, culture, or community. The goal is to think critically and creatively about what sustainability means in the context of your own life; how beliefs, choices, and actions can shape traditions for the better. Prompt Think about a holiday, festival, or special gathering you participate in (past, present, or upcoming). Using what youve learned in this course, reflect on what a sustainable version of that event could or should look like for you. In three paragraphs, respond to the following: First be clear and name your holiday for context. What you cannot or will not change Identify elements of the celebration that feel culturally or personally essential, or beyond your control. Why are these aspects important to preserve, and what sustainability challenges might they present? What you can and will change Describe practical actions you could take to make your celebration more sustainable (e.g., food sourcing, energy use, travel, waste, social inclusion). Connect your ideas to at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) or belief about sustainability youve developed during this course. What you must do moving forward Share one specific commitment you believe is necessary to make your participation in future celebrations more sustainablepersonally, within your family, or in your community. Artifact Requirement Along with your written post, include one supporting artifact that represents or enhances your reflection. Examples include, but are not limited to: A photo or drawing related to your holiday or sustainability idea A short video clip or movie scene that connects to your theme A short poem, quote, or song lyric that illustrates your belief or value A digital or handmade creation inspired by your sustainable holiday vision The artifact should help express your ideas visually or emotionally, adding another dimension to your reflection. Be creative, have fun, and make it meaningful. Instructions Write approximately 250300 words (about one page). Reference at least one UN SDG in your post. Include one artifact that complements your reflection (image, poem, clip, etc.). Upload your post and artifact directly to this discussion thread. No peer replies are required for this discussion. Grading (100 points total) Criteria Points Description Depth and Clarity 30 Demonstrates understanding of sustainability and clear connection to a holiday or cultural context. Connection to SDGs or Course Beliefs 10 Thoughtfully links ideas to one or more SDGs or personal sustainability insights. Creativity and Artifact Integration 10 Uses a relevant, expressive artifact to enhance or illustrate the reflection
