Disability Research Paper This 1,000-1,500 word paper (4-6 pages double spaced) is an investigation into a disability category of your choice (must fall within the mild-moderate disability category as discussed in our class). The paper needs to include at least 8 outside resources, with at least 4 sources being from peer-reviewed journals, academic books, and/or reputable university press publications. The other 4 sources also need to be highly credible sources such as reports from reputable research organizations, government agencies (e.g., .gov, .edu), or expert industry publications. The goals of both the paper and the multimedia project are to: 1) Introduce the disability and include an overview of how the disability presents in K-12 students 2) Provide general statistics and demographic information regarding the disability and its prevalence, specifically among K-12 students (include information on access to the general education classroom based on the disability) 3) Review how the disability is diagnosed and the testing, procedures, evaluations, systems, etc. that are in place to identify students with this disability 4) Identify and analyze common and researched-based interventions and academic supports provided for students with this disability 5) Analyze common challenges schools and students face in terms of support, stigma, resources, etc. regarding this disability 6) Review best practices for engaging with students and families and how to address a holistic continuum of support for students with this disability 7) Include an APA aligned works cited page with at least 8 credible sources. Use APA citations throughout the project to cite information (e.g., Author’s Name, Year of Publication) In addition to submitting the final paper or project, you will also be responsible for a brief 5-minute sharing of your work with our class (e.g., highlighting important pieces of your paper or presenting your multimedia video to the class). Presentations will take place March 4 and March 18th. Teaching Students with Special Needs in Inclusive Settings (8thEdition) Authors: by Tom E. C. Smith, Edward A.
