Dear Future Me Adolescent Development Letter
Purpose: Apply what youve learned about adolescence to create a realistic, research-based letter from a teenager to their future self.
Instructions
You will write a fictional but realistic letter from the perspective of a 1517-year-old addressed to their 25-year-old self. The letter should reflect an understanding of at least four topics from this chapter.
Requirements:
- Write in first person (I just finished my first year of…) as if you are a teen living through adolescence right now.
- Include at least one reference to:
- Physical or brain development (puberty, brain changes, motor skills, or health needs)
- Cognitive development (formal operational stage, decision-making, or risk/reward behaviors)
- Sexual health and education (pubertal timing, sexual decision-making, or sex ed experiences)
- Risk behaviors or influences (peer pressure, family influences, media, or environment)
- Make the voice and concerns feel authentic to a teenager in the real world.
- End the letter with a reflection: What do they hope will be different or the same when they turn 25?
- Double-spaced, 12-point font, less than one page.
- No AI-generated writing all words must be your own.
