Cross Cultural Interactions in Group Counseling

Assignment Overview

Initial Post Prompt:

The text and counseling scholars suggest that all interactions in counseling are intercultural and cross cultural. There is no stronger place to recognize this than in group counseling. Just like we bring our cultures, mores and traditions into the counseling space, so do clients; even more so when we are facilitating a group. Even if we are not specifically discussing something related to cultural identity, these topics can still find a way to emerge during group interactions.

For your discussion board this week, please watch the video and answer the guided questions from Chapter 6 on page 128 in your textbook. In addition, please respond to the following:

  • Are there any ethical or legal obligations that you want to consider as you move forward with this group?
  • How would you ensure that everyone in this group gets to share their experience and yet keep the group emotionally safeguarded?

Instructions:

  • Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. Your initial response should be at least 300 words.
