Correlation and Third Variables

What is this assignment about?

You must analyze a correlational study and show that correlation does NOT mean causation by identifying possible third variables.

PART 1 (NO AI ALLOWED VERY IMPORTANT)

  1. Choose one study from the list.
  2. Create 3 third variables on your own.
  3. For each one:
    • Name the variable
    • Explain in 23 sentences how it could explain the relationship

You cannot use AI in this part. It must be your own work.

PART 2 (AI ALLOWED LIMITED USE)

  1. Open a new chat with an AI tool (ChatGPT, etc.).
  2. Paste your chosen study.
  3. Ask the AI for 2 new third variables (different from yours).
  4. Then:
    • Copy and paste the entire conversation into your document

  4. Why third variables are important in research
