Concert Report Assignment Sheet & Checklist ( concert: W.A. Mozart Requiem – Orchestre national de France: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp2SJN4UiE4 )
To further enhance your experience of music, you will write one report/review of a classical
concert. The concert must be of classical music. If you attend a live in-person concert it
must occur during this semester. I will provide a list of acceptable online concerts you may
use in place of attending a live concert. That list can be found under Content on MY
COURSES (D2L).
For online concerts, ONLY those concerts on the list are
acceptable.
This does NOT open the reports to everything on YouTube or other online
sites, nor does it allow for live online performances. If you do not want to physically attend
a live concert venue, you must use the list provided.
__ The concert level should be college or adult. No Elementary, Jr. High, or High School
Concerts.
__
Include a scan or photo of the ticket or printed program for live concerts only
. If
you attend a concert where there is no ticket or program, you can document attendance
with a photo. (No proof of attendance is needed for online concerts from the list.) Please
contact your instructor if you are unsure if a particular live concert is okay for this
assignment. For live concerts only (Not online concerts): include the date, time, and
location of the concert) in the body of your paper.
__ The concert report should include a
very brief
discussion of the venue, the performers
or ensemble and their instruments, then an overview of the entire concert. If it is a long
performance, you can choose to focus on one or two pieces, but there MUST be a fairly
detailed overview of the entire concert, including the titles and something specific about
each piece and movement performed.
The emphasis of the paper should focus on the
MUSIC and your description of what YOU heard and saw at the performance. Be
specific about what YOU heard. This is not a paper about your emotional response to
the music or some imagined storyline, nor is it a research paper about the history of
the music or the composer. Listening to the concert is the ONLY research you
should do for this paper.
__ The reports should be typed and include 2 FULL pages of double-spaced, left aligned
writing. Portrait orientation only. Use 1 margins and no font larger than 12-point. Indent
each paragraph and do not add any blank lines or subtitles between paragraphs. Page 2 of
the report must fill at least 3/4 of the page. Short papers will be docked 50 points, with one-
page papers receiving no credit. Do not include lists or bullet points. The paper should be
written in paragraphs only.
__
Your concert report must be in Microsoft WORD (.docx) format.
No other formats
will be accepted. If you use Works, Google Docs, Apple Pages, PDF, or various other file

formats, please convert your document to the WORD file format before submitting it. You
can get assistance from the PPCC Computer Lab if you are unsure how to do this.
__ The heading should be just your name in the upper corner of the page and a centered
title. Headings that take up more space than this will be graded (and possibly docked)
based on the length of the paper without the expanded heading. An MLA format heading
should NOT be used for the concert reports.
__ Submit your concert report in the appropriate MY COURSES (D2L) drop box under the
Assignments heading.
I do NOT accept late concert reports.
Concert reports can
always be turned in any time before the due date.
PLEASE DO NOT ADD STRESS FOR YOURSELF BY WAITING UNTIL THE LAST
MINUTE!
