You have been tasked with developing a narrated PowerPoint presentation with video that can be shared to stakeholders. See below for assignment instructions. Presentation Guidelines
Your presentation should include the following sections:
- Brief Introduction
- Team Formation
- Identify and assemble a team of mental health professionals with rationale for their inclusion on the team.
- Assign roles and responsibilities to each team member.
- Needs Assessment
- Conduct research to understand the primary health concerns of refugee and/or homeless populations. Include information from at least 2 credible sources about the needs for these patients.
- Identify barriers to healthcare access, including transportation, financial constraints, and mental health challenges.
- Discuss considerations with legal, ethical, cultural, and language barrier concerns.
- Service Plan Development
- Create a service plan that includes what you determine to be necessary for treatment for this patient population. Examples: medical check-ups, mental health support, substance abuse counseling, and/or social services assistance.
- Define protocols for referrals to hospitals, shelters, and rehabilitation centers.
- Establish a schedule for mobile clinics or designated clinic hours and determine how you will be situated in a location easily accessible to the patient population.
- Expand on which therapy techniques and assessment skills should be utilizes specifically for this patient population to ensure holistic care.
- Partnerships and Resources
- Identify at least 2 potential partnerships with local shelters, community organizations, and government agencies.
- Reflection
- What personal biases or stereotypes do you hold regarding refugee and/or homeless patients? How can this create a fear of working with this patient population? What biases or stereotypes could other providers hold?
- How might bias and/or stereotypes impact the care provided for this patient population?
- Have you ever assumed a homeless patients health condition was solely due to their lifestyle choices? How can you or healthcare professionals shift perspective to focus on their individual needs and circumstances?
