After reading David Grann’s non-fiction novel Killers of the Flower Moon, we wit watch Martin Scorsese’s film version of the story. The objective is to compare and contrast HOW the story is told in the two different versions. As you watch, pay close attention to the following:
Who does the story “focus” on?
How do we find out information about the characters?
Are the portrayals of any of the characters different? If so, how To what extent does each portrayal remain true to the truth?
What is the narrative perspective of each version?
What does the medium (novel vs. film) allow each version to do? How does the medium impact meaning?
Jot down notes and examples about how the book and movie differ in the note catcher below.
Remember that you will want to leave room to add more examples as they come up throughout the course of the movie. Staple any other notes taken during the movie to this paper. THIS HANDWRITTEN NOTECATCHER IS THE ONLY RESOURCE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE IN THE UPCOMING IN-CLASS ESSAY.
