The assignment builds on the previous assignment allowing for a deeper engagement and application of theory and skills covered so far. Instructions: Using the social issue chosen for the Community Assessment and Intervention Plan Assignment (Part One), students will draw upon Anti-Oppressive theory and two other theoretical frameworks to assess the social issue as it relates to the community of focus. Students should also identify and discuss a model or framework for creating that change. The content of the assignment will draw upon materials and templates used in the community toolbox modules. Students should use a minimum of five sources with at least two being peer-reviewed journals The structure of the assignment will be discussed further in class. Detailed instructions: 1. Use the Same Social Issue from Part One. (I choose loss of culture and language in Saskatchewan reservations). Not so wordy. Write as a :rd yr social work student cree man. You must continue working with the social issue and community that you already selected for the Community Assessment and Intervention Plan 2. Apply Three Theoretical Frameworks You must analyze the issue using: Anti-Oppressive Theory (Required) PLUS Two additional theories (for example): * Systems Theory * Ecological Model * Feminist Theory * Critical Theory * Strengths-Based Approach * Post-colonial Theory Theories help explain why the problem exists and how power, inequality, and structures affect the community. Example: * Anti-Oppressive examines discrimination, marginalization, systemic barriers * Ecological looks at family, school, policy, and social environment * Systems focuses on how institutions interact 3. Identify the Problems Facing the Community Describe the key challenges experienced by the population. Ask yourself: * Who is affected? * What are they experiencing? * How serious is the issue? Then explain: Contributing factors things that cause the problem Examples: * Poverty * Stigma * Lack of services * Language barriers Compounding factors things that make the problem worse Examples: * Racism * Policy gaps * Transportation barriers * Cultural misunderstandings 4. Assess Community Needs AND Resources** This is very important do not focus only on deficits. Community Needs: * What is missing? * What support is required? * What services should exist but dont? Community Resources: * Existing programs * Community organizations * Informal supports (families, cultural groups) * Schools, clinics, advocacy groups 5. Develop At Least Three Goals for Change Goals should describe what improvement would look like. You can use the SMART frameworkif helpful: * Specific * Measurable * Achievable * Relevant * Time-bound 6. Identify a Model or Framework for Change Now explain HOW change will happen. You might choose models such as: * Community Development Model * Social Action Model * Collective Impact * Empowerment Model * Policy Advocacy Framework * Community Toolbox strategies 7. Use the Community Toolbox Your professor expects you to integrate concepts from the Community Toolbox modules, which often include: * Community assessment * Stakeholder engagement * Planning interventions * Building partnerships * Evaluating outcomes You do NOT need to explain the entire toolbox just apply relevant tools. 8. Use At Least Five Academic Sources Requirements: Minimum 5 sources, at least 2 peer-reviewed journal articles Good sources include: * Academic journals * Government reports * WHO / CDC * Scholarly books Suggested Paper Structure 1. Introduction – Introduce the social issue and community – State why it matters 2. Theoretical Framework – Briefly explain Anti-Oppressive + two theorie – Apply them to the issue 3.
