Clinical Issue Paper

You are trying to answer a clinical question or solve a clinical problem but lack adequate information. Your issue can relate to a patient quality indicator, safety initiative, population data for management of a disease, outcome data for a specific condition or patient complication, staff wellness, etc. You will need to find and use appropriate data to adequately explore your issue.

In this paper you will:

  1. State the issue (problem/question) clearly that you are exploring. Include the relevance of the issue; provide a background and context to explain the issue.
  2. Define what essential data you need to address the issue and why the data is needed.
  3. Discuss where you will look for this data, sources needed, and your plan to access data you need if it is not available in the public domain.
  4. Address all relevant ethical concerns related to accessing and using the data you need.
  5. Address barriers you encountered in trying to get the data you needed. Include how you navigated these challenges and resources you had for assistance.
  6. Discuss if the data you found/received was formatted in a way that readily allowed you to find your answer(s). If not, what was your plan for resolving this matter?
  7. Sort your data in the way that will best answer your question/solve your clinical problem and that conveys meaningful information to others.
  8. Create an informative visual display of your data. Determine the best method for visually displaying your data results for others to understand the information and knowledge that you gained. Keep your audience(s) in mind; your visual display may need to be adjusted for different audiences.
  9. Discuss who you will need to share this information with and why.
  10. Finally, discuss advice you would give a colleague thinking about starting a similar data-driven project.

This should be written as a 7-10 page paper (excluding title page, reference page, and appendices) with a minimum of 10 current, peer-reviewed scholarly references (< 5 years old) to support your work.

All visual display(s) of your data will be submitted as Appendices in your paper. (See APA 7th Edition Manual for Appendix formatting.)
