Case Study: Voicing Your Values

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapter 2: Deciding Whats Right: A Prescriptive Approach and read Chapter 3: Deciding Whats Right: A Psychological Approach and Chapter 4: Addressing Individuals Common Ethical Problems in the course text. Additionally, review the corresponding PowerPoint presentations for each of these chapters.

Read the following case study and use the Eight Steps to Sound Ethical Decision-Making in Business approach to consider the accompanying questions as you write your case study analysis and recommendations.

Assume the following hypothetical scenario: You are a trader who joined a large investment bank two years ago. Pat, one of your fellow traders, is well-known on the Street for being a big risk taker and a big money maker for the firm. Consequently, he is popular among your firms senior management. You see him at a party one night and notice that he surreptitiously used cocaine several times. Several weeks later in the office, you notice that Pat seems exceptionally high-spirited and that his pupils are extremely dilatedyou know that both are signs of drug use.

You are thinking of mentioning something about it to his managing director, Steve, when Pat makes a particularly impressive profit in the market for your firms account. Pats manager, Bob, jokes that he does not know how Pat does it, but he does not care. However he is pulling this off, its great for the firm, Bob laughs. You feel strongly that this is a problem and that it places your firm at risk. You have already raised the issue with Bob, who ignored the issue.

Support your analysis and recommendations with evidence from at least three scholarly or credible sources in addition to textbooks, industry reports, and articles from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library. Be sure to include any links to professional websites used as references or to access company information.

In your paper,

  • Define the primary ethical dilemma for the international organization or U.S. business or financial sector.
  • Discuss how diversity plays a role in the ethical dilemma and its potential impact on the decision-making process and outcome for different stakeholders.
  • Identify the affected parties (i.e., the stakeholders) in the case and the important rights of each.
  • Identify the consequences of your decision and the obligations of your analysis.
  • Defend the character and integrity of your analysis and decision.
  • Describe alternative courses of action and the likely consequences of each proposed action for each stakeholder.
  • Explain what you personally think is the right course of action in the case and the basis of your recommendation.

The Case Study: Voicing Your Values paper

  • must be two to three double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to as outlined in the Writing Centers resource.
  • must include a separate title page with the following in title case:
    • title of paper in bold font
      • Space should appear between the title and the rest of the information on the title page.
    • students name
    • name of institution (The University of Arizona Global Campus)
    • course name and number
    • instructors name
    • due date
  • must utilize academic voice. See the resource for additional guidance.
  • must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph.
    • Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
    • For assistance on writing as well as , refer to the Writing Center resources.
  • must use at least three scholarly, peer-reviewed, or credible sources in addition to the course text
