This TMA question asks you to draw on the concept of intersectionality to discuss how multiple aspects of identity can combine and impact upon childhood inequalities. The process word discuss in the title prompts you to pick the most important aspects, pointing out the strengths and limitations of different arguments.

You must highlight intersectionality, discussed in , and the ways that different aspects of identity (e.g. gender, race and disability) combine to impact inequalities.

When discussing how inequalities result from the combination of multiple aspects of children and young peoples identities, you may find it useful to consider different types of research evidence that contribute to knowledge about inequalities. For example, you may want to make links to how different forms of inequality and their impact can be studied using statistical measures (a form of quantitative research) of income and/or poverty indicators, in contrast to evidence that draws on interviews, personal reflections and children and young peoples voices (forms of qualitative research).

As this is a more extended essay question, you should take time to plan your answer, as this will help you to develop an introduction, conclusion and logical argument, which keep the focus on the question. Instead, it aims to provide an additional space to raise and discuss any prepared questions that you may have about the TMA. TMA surgery sessions will not be recorded.
