According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), life expectancy is now 77.5 years, which has decreased over the last 10 years. In this , though, you can see there are differences by gender and race. This table not only demonstrates life expectancy differences but also underlying causes.
Assignment Expectations
Choose a specific population group from the table data (e.g., rural Hispanic communities, older adult Asian Americans, or refugee populations), and design a culturally sensitive health promotion plan or mini-intervention plan focused on one health issue among this population (e.g., diabetes, vaccination, or mental health). Remember that effective health education and programming depends on choosing the most appropriate theory and practice strategy for a given population and environment. Different theories work best in specific situations. Keep this in mind as you create your plan.
This plan should include and address the following:
- Data to support the intervention
- Key objectives of the program
- A theory or model that best helps meet these key objectives (Be sure to explain the theory and justify its use for your intervention.)
- Discuss how your theory or model addresses cultural relevance and inclusivity for your target population.
- Reflect on the strengths and limitations of your theory or model for designing interventions in diverse communities.
