Scenario 2

A counselor is supervising a trainee who consistently submits late progress notes for their sessions with clients. During supervision, the trainee admits feeling overwhelmed with time management but expresses no willingness to adjust their workflow. Meanwhile, the supervisor learns that a client has filed a complaint about the trainee not following through on agreed-upon treatment plans. The supervisor must address both the ethical implications of the trainees documentation practices and their impact on client care.

In your analysis, address the following:

• Identify the ethical issues related to supervision in this scenario.
• Propose an appropriate response to help the trainee improve their boundaries and clinical competence. Reference Chapter 9 concepts, such as the supervisor’s responsibilities and gatekeeping role.
• Discuss the counselors ethical obligations when working with the client requesting alternative methods. Reference Chapter 10 concepts, such as evidence-based practice, cultural competence, and respecting client autonomy.
