9784-BUSM2732Managing Dynamics of Global Operations

The order includes two tasks:

  • Assessment 1 Report – 1500 words (due March 8th)
  • Assessment 3 Reflection – 1500 words (due May 20th)

Assessment 1 Report – 1500 words (due March 8th)

This assessment requires you to apply the knowledge learned during the first three weekly topics in a real world company.

Select a company/organisation of your own choice (You are welcome to check the company with your tutor) that has internationalised, and then analyse whether and how the companys international business strategy and structure align, as well as provide comments or recommendations for the company and others in the similar situation. Specifically, you should complete the following tasks in the report:

  1. Describe briefly the current state of the companys internationalisation (e.g., COO, size, degree of internationalisation, industry/products/services)
  2. Articulate the companys international business strategy (e.g., international, multidomestic, global, transnational)
  3. Identify the companys structure
  4. Analyse whether and how the structure serves the companys international operations (e.g., draw from MNC structure readings)
  5. Provide comments or recommendations based on the above

While you must describe/identify the companys strategy and structure, make sure your primary focus is on the analytical part, that is, whether strategy and structure work alongside with each other (e.g., support or constrain), from which you draw your recommendations.

Assessment 3 Reflection – 1500 words (due May 20th)

Your Tasks

This essay is your opportunity to reflect on what youve learned from the course and how it connects to your future goals. Your reflections should be based on a range of learning experiences, including:

  • Studying weekly topics (readings and other assigned materials)
  • Preparing for assessments
  • Learning beyond class, such as applying what youve learned to real-world situations

Youll need to address three main questions:

1. Has the course advanced your understanding of international business? (40%)

  • Highlight the knowledge and skills from the course that have deepened your understanding of the complex nature of international business, including examples of concepts or theories you found particularly interesting and useful, and demonstrate how applications of the knowledge and skills help you develop insights in real-world situations.
  • (Optional) Describe your own theoretical framework(s) for understanding international business phenomena.

2. How has your learning influenced your career thinking? (40%)

  • Even if you havent chosen a career yet, reflect on how the course may have influenced your interests or goals. Specifically, you may consider:
  • How and why has the course sparked your interest in certain professional areas?
  • What role(s) (e.g., in a company or the society) has this course inspired you to become? Explain the role.
  • How does this course help you develop a strength or deep knowledge to support your future career, for example, regarding the profession and roles you are interested?
  • If you have another major or minor, does it complement your study of GB to improve your career prospects? If so, how?

3. Considering your future career, what do you want to learn more about international business? (Be specific about what knowledge or skills you want to develop further) (20%)

  • Explain why this is an important missing piece for you and how it could help your career.
  • Research whether this knowledge/skill is part of international business and where you could learn it. Provide examples of related sources.

Given the limited space, you must write concisely and effectively. For example, a short abstract (no more than 100 words) and essential subheadings are needed, but do not include executive summary and table of contents etc., which are for larger reports. Academic references (not counted towards the word limit) should be used when referring to established concepts and theories and supporting arguments. DO NOT use lecture notes as references. Accordingly, the structure of your report may be as follows (recommended only):

  • Abstract (no more than 100 words)
  • Answer to Question 1 (You may decide on the subheading)
  • Answer to Question 2 (You may decide on the subheading)
  • Answer to Question 3 (You may decide on the subheading)
  • Conclusion (no more than 100 words)
