Select a practice problem relevant to your clinical or organizational setting. You will propose an improvement process strategyan actionable plan to enhance outcomes, safety, efficiency, or equity by applying the NHS Change Model
Develop a professional presentation as if you were pitching your idea to key stakeholders (e.g., nurse leaders, administrators, interdisciplinary partners). This presentation should be persuasive, realistic, and designed to gain support for implementing your improvement process.
Your presentation should include the following elements:
Title (1 slide)
- Include your presentation title, name
The Practice Problem & Case for Change (12 slides)
- One-sentence of the problem statement and 1-2 baseline data points.
- Why it matters now (i.e., safety, quality, efficiency, equity)
- Primary stakeholders (i.e., patient, staff, unit/service)
Shared Purpose (1 slide)
- One concise statement of the shared purpose for this change.
- How you involved or will involve stakeholders to shape it.
Leadership for Change (1 slide)
- Sponsor and day-to-day lead.
- Governance: how decisions/escalation will work.
Engagement to Mobilize (1 slide)
- Who must be engaged (roles/teams)
- How you will engage them (huddles, brief demos, quick feedback loops).
Strategy or Intervention (24 slides)
- Describe the improvement process strategy or intervention you propose that fits your setting.
- Provide a brief overview of the supporting literature that validates your approach.
- If the strategy is evidence-based, summarize key findings from scholarly sources.
- If the strategy is innovative, explain the gap in existing evidence and why an innovative approach is warranted.
- Correlate how the proposed improvement aligns with identified needs, existing resources, and desired outcomes.
Improvement Methods & Implementation Plan (23 slides)
- Identify the method(s) youll use (i.e., PDSA, run charts, process mapping).
- One small test you will start with (what, where, who, when).
- Present an overview of how you would implement your improvement process strategy.
- Include:
- Resources required: human, fiscal, and material
- Timeline: realistic timeframe for implementation
- Integration with PDSA: highlight how the Plan phase of the PDSA cycle would guide your approach
Measurement (1 slide)
- 3-4 concise measures with a focus on outcomes, process, balancing.
System Drivers & Capability (1 slide)
- Key drivers/resources that enable success (i.e., skills, time, data, training)
- Gaps and how you will close them (i.e., micro-training, quick guides, super users).
Sustainability & Spread (1 slide)
- What will keep the change in place (i.e., standard work, audits, onboarding)
- Criteria and plan to spread to the next unit/clinic if results hold.
Reflection
- Your thoughts about the Change Model and its usefulness as a framework for designing a change process and its strategic approach to improve outcomes
