566: Module 7 Discussion: Barriers

Topic: Why do domestic violence victims stay?As you reflect on the readings and the video, what barriers do victims/survivors of IPV face – consider micro, meso, and macro level factors, and barriers that may be faced when identifying an abusive situation, leaving, seeking support, etc. Please look at this question also with an intersectional lens – how are barriers further compounded when we consider race, class, sexuality and/or gender (or other factors – please identify)?How might you, as a social worker, in your current field agency or within a field you hope to be in, in the future, address barriers? Does your agency already do this, or is there work to be done, and if so, how might you become further involved?
